Things about summer.
College World Series.
Playing wiffle ball in the cul-de-sac with Jeb, Erin, and cousin, Sarah. Swing it till you hit it. Try for home every time. Get red in the face.
Buy Bubble gum snow cones and strawberry crunch things from the hispanic lady who drives the old and yellow ice cream truck around and around and around the neighborhood with that same song playing.
Going to the swimming pool. The lazy river one.
Driving the van to pick up wheat samples in Vernon and Wichita Falls, Texas. Meeting the firemen and coaches who gather the samples on that end so that Paul Mann, our head football coach, and I can pick them up and bring them in. Afterall, you need bread on your table. Driving to get the wheat is about 2 & 1/2 hours one way. Splendid time for thinking and looking at what I can see along the way. In the dusk hours, I can see the combines working the fields in the distance. After dark, I can see their lights bright in the fields driving in a staggered orderly fashion making their way up and down the aisles. I learned from an article that the combines start in south Texas in May and work their way north hiring their services out to the farmers. Many of the combine owners are from a line of combine drivers who established hard ties to certain farms and farmers. Those driving now continue that tradition. Another "wheat run" revelation = rest areas are scary places. Tip: Keep driving.
Trips. Anywhere.
Staying up a little later. Sleeping a little later.
Rooster Booster, 1/2 diet & 1/2 real, from QuikTrip.
The Moores - Terri, Megan, Thomas, Jonathan - from Navasota come for a visit.
Peaches. Hill country peaches. And preserves. From Vogl's orchard just outside of Fredericksburg, Texas. Maybe we will get there this summer.
T-shirts. A new t-shirt is always a nice thing. Even if it is new to me, from Goodwill, or some other thrift store and cost $1. Not specific to summer necessarily but a new pen and new pad of paper is hard to beat. I almost stopped to buy one last night in Vernon, Texas, just to check the quality of paper in the north country. And, after all, I might need to write something down on the drive back.
Kids making brownies.
Leslie making banana pudding.
I'm done now.

What great thoughts...I especially like the one about Leslie's banana pudding. As a general rule I don't like bananas or banana flavored items, but I do like banana bread and Leslie's banana pudding. The last time I had it was after Caleb's baptism and a few weeks later I told Maria that we should make some. She told me that the only reason I like it is because it mainly has Eagle Brand milk, vanilla pudding, and Cool Whip in it, not because of the bananas. My question back was, "...and what's wrong with that?!"
Thanks for making me like banana pudding, Leslie!
